How to climb up the Corporate Ladder

In the corporate world, as charming or fancy as it seems, it could be an exasperating experience to climb up the corporate ladder. Many of us in our careers keep committing one or the other gaffe intentionally or unintentionally which eventually affects our career growth. Here are few ways which can help you in moving up the corporate ladder as quickly as possible:

Be Passionate: I can bet thousands of people go to the office every day morning thinking ‘Not Again’ as they simply don’t like their work. The idea is to either quit and take up another job or be enthusiastic about your present job. The same job when done with 100% dedication will bring success to your feet and there is no looking back.

Speak up your mind: Introvert people or employees don’t lack the idea but the courage to speak up their minds. There is no hard and fast rule that the best idea will come from the few who have always given it before. Your idea could be worth a million buck, so give it a try and come out of pre conceived notion of ‘it’s not good enough’.

Network: Being best at your work can surely give you lot of self satisfaction but if that praise is shared by hundreds of your colleagues it will be a sure shot morale booster. Avoid being in your own shell, chat, party and have fun with the people around. Great networking skills or the so called people management skills is one of the few traits that are looked upon when it comes to choosing between two equally efficient persons. Trust me your networking skills can do wonders for you.

Independent: Always be ready to get started. Be someone who can drive things independently with minimal supervision. But always update your boss. Being reliable and independent is a classic combination managers want in their employees. During appraisals, this quality of yours can help can move up the ladder quickly.

Ignite: Be an igniting factor for your company. It need not be always work related. It could be something related to fun or frolic. Start with a small initiative (of course don’t forget to have your superior’s permission) and let the word of praise be spread for you. The exuberance your initiative will spread in the work place will spread a good word of mouth for you.

Be a smart worker: As said by famous writer, Shiv Khera ‘Winners don’t do different things, they do things differently”. While everyone appreciates hard work, but if that hard work takes months to complete a simple task it is of no use. Be a smart worker. As one of my bosses, once told me don’t try re-inventing the wheel every time when you already have enough resources in the company to help you out. Focus and put your energies where you need to.

I am sure it’s easier said than done in this deafening rush for achievement, but following above steps will take you closer to your goal of climbing the corporate ladder quickly.
